Sahabat Anak MG Update |
| Making a Difference in Children's Lives
Sahabat Anak (Friends of Children) is
wrapping up their year of working with Matching Grant monies in 5
locations in Jakarta.
Throughout the program, the
Rotarians visited the SA
locations to learn more about how the SA locations run their programs,
which provide education and life skills learning for street children and
youth.
For
more details on the grant and the progress made per location, click the Sahabat Anak MG Update link above.

Enabling the islanders of Flores
The Rotarians of RCJS also continue to
support development programs through Witihama, in Flores, Indonesia.
The club recently had guest visitors
from this outer island: Arnold and his wife Anastasia. The visitors
reported on the progress of the Witihama project. Updates included
that the program recently sent men to study furniture craftmanship,
and 12 women to Ruteng to attend sewing class. They reported that the
LCD donated by RCJS has helped in informing school kids and the
elderly about such health issues as HIV, which is unfortunately
becoming a new phenomena on the island.
Arnold is also helping groups of
farmers develop their land. He requested support of their local
agriculture magazine.

The reward of being a Rotarian in Jakarta is
seeing firsthand where our club and our international sponsors' monies
go. We see how far a single dollar can stretch. For example, for the
cost of a Starbucks' coffee, I can buy enough eggs to give 1 a day to a
child for an entire month. That may be the only protein that child gets.
