Help us support these projects. Costs (USD) are detailed below for each of our projects.

Project 1: Sahabat Anak (Friends of Children)

Goals:
- Provide alternative learning opportunities to street children / youth where they live and work ("on the street") and in learning centers
- Provide opportunities for character building; introduce new mental models ("build skills for the future" vs "instant gratification")
- Help street youth identify interests and talents, then enable them to develop and maximize those talents working with professionals in the community (provide alternatives to street life)

Costs:
- For details on costs, refer to the Sahabat Anak MG Update

   - 115+ children / youth living at the orphanage
   - Local community residents who can't afford transport to and/or medical care at the nearest Puskesmas (local clinic)

Alternative Sales / Avenues for Income:
The founder of the orphanage is also an artist. He creates unique, one-of-a-kind wall sculptures from scrap metal found locally. The youth help him in his creations. Contact us for more information.

Project 3: Local School Support

Goal:
-
Enable learning by supporting the creation of a conducive learning environment (toilet facilities, mold and fungus removal, roof repairs, desks and chairs, etc.)
- With additional funding, we can support purchases of books, learning materials, etc.

Costs (Examples):
- Early childhood learning materials, such as books, puzzles, play dough, etc. - $300USD
- Uniforms for a "class" (30 students) - $250USD
- Playground equipment - $500USD

Approach:
- Partner with two impoverished schools in the Jakarta area:
   - Teluk Naga - 1 pre-school class
   - Serpong area - 2 primary classes (2nd and 3rd grade)
- School selections based on active and committed participation of parents and/or community re: the children's education AND committed Rotarian involvement.

Project 4: Papua Orphanage for Orphans of AIDS Victims

Goals:
- Provide assistance to enable building a fence and orphanage for children whose parents have died of AIDS

Costs:
- Provide financial contribution toward building of a fence to secure the land, which has been purchased and cleared of "squatters"
- Investigate how to enable the orphanage to become self-sufficient in making bricks locally, thus supporting their:
    - Immediate need for fencing and orphanage building
    - Future need for sustained income to support the orphanage's costs

 Project 5: Polio Eradication
Goals:
- We have joined Rotary clubs around the world to accept the Gates Foundation's challenge of raising $100 million USD. If Rotary raises the money, Gates will match it.
- Rotary has partnered with the World Health Organization, UNICEF, and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control to eradicate polio by immunizing children around the world.
- For more information on Rotary's involvement in eradicating polio, go to www.rotary.org.

As long as polio threatens even one child anywhere in the world, all children are at risk. The stakes are that high.
